Talking Points #4

Phrase of the week! "I want to ...."!  Our 21 month old Little Miss Chatterbox has taken to speaking more frequently in sentences of which her favourite has to be the "I want to ..." phrase.  

"I want to sleep", "I want to play, please", "I want to eat apple", "I want to sit", "I want to read, Piece (referring to the Missing Piece book which she's currently obsessed over)".  I still can't get over the fact that she's articulating her needs (or wants for that matter) so clearly now.  Hearing her actually speak proper words and sentences these days is such a milestone to celebrate I think and something we as parents are very proud of!  

Our little munch'kin is growing up so fast ... slow down Juju ... Mama still wants to savour your little baby days!

Talking Points #4

As she approaches 21 months, Jules spent her last month picking another whole lot of new words. Sometimes, you feel like you can have a conversation with her already!

New words this month . . .

Jude (Finally mastered my brother-in-law's name.  Now is to teach her to piece Uncle and Jude together)

Aunty (She'll call any random lady we see on the streets "aunty")

Puff (Although her cereals are also puffs)

Body Parts (Has mastered saying most of her body parts.  We're still working on her 10 little fingers and toes)

Armpit (She finds this word particularly funny and will always break into laughter after we point to her armpit and ask her what it was)

Manners (Can say these words but unfortunately has not learnt to say them spontaneously.  Still has to be told to say her please and sorry.  We're still working on the "Thank you")

Kitty (Refers both to cats and Hello Kitty - no I was not crazy enough to buy her the MacD Hello Kitties. We just happen to have some Kitty stuff toys at home)

Elmo (She's currently going through a serious Elmo phase.  She usually calls for me when she wakes up from her nap.  Yesterday, she called out for Elmo.  Enuff said.)

Kim (For cream.  She's a little obessed with creams - moisturising cream I mean.  She likes to dunk her finger into bottles of body/hand/face cream and smear them on herself and others) 

Mask (Thanks to the haze.  During the week when the haze was at its peak, we made sure that she had her mask on whenever we left the house.  She would only put it on if she saw us with it too.  By the time she got into the habit of wearing it, the haze was gone - thankfully)

Mop (I told you before she has a little OCD)

Smile (She LOVES hijacking our phones and taking selfies.  She'll either go "smile" or "cheese")

And this, is my favourite! After hearing us whenever we prayed together or for her, she has learnt to close our prayers.  The minute I say "In Jesus name we pray", she'll go "Ah-meh".  Sometimes, she says it even before I can finish closing the prayer.  It really is quite precious.

Talking Points #3

Jules is becoming quite Lil Miss Chatty of late.  It probably is a combination of school and a vocabulary spurt which is common around this age at about 20 months.

I'm starting to lose track of her new words already so before I completely do, I thought I better just keep a record - just for my own sake and no one else's.

People

Baby (referring to the little babies in her books and whenever she sees a real baby) 

She has mastered calling all of us at home including her Da-yi and Che Che Sophie.  She's still working on her Uncle Jude and Uncle Sam.  She has also taken to calling me Mummy lately.  I think it's something she picked up from school since no one at home uses the term.  Well, I don't suppose the teachers use the term Mama in school so there you have it!

Pork (Our helper taught her this at dinner time one day.  From then all, all forms of meat she's eating is pork. Ask her what's that in her bowl of grapes, the answer will also be pork)

Car (Graduated from saying "vroom vroom".  She can now say it the right way)

I can't be more proud of her to see her making all these little development in her speech.  It must be a lot of hard work which probably explains a little regression in her sleep patterns the last two weeks.

Talking Points #2

Jules is going through a little vocabulary spurt of late.  She has added some new words and even a 2 word sentence to her list.  Everyone at home gets very thrilled hearing her pick up new words and saying them out loud.  They don't always sound perfect which makes it all the more adorable actually.

Yiyi (Finally called Yiyi! My younger sis was sooo happy, she called me up at work and put Jules to the phone just to prove her point)

Blueberry (Her other favourite fruit after strawberry.  She must have figured better start with my favourites.)

Expressions
No more (Her first 2-word sentence.  She says it when there's no more food left in her bowl or when the song on the disney/baby tv channel has ended)
One more (This came shortly after "no more".  There was no more blueberries in her fruit bowl, so she looked up at her Papa with her puppy eyes and said "one more".  She went on to let out a loud chuckle when her Papa happily obliged her with another berry)

I think it thrills herself as much as us that she can now use words to communicate and let us know what she wants.  I leave you with a random photo we took over the weekend!  Happy Tuesday! 

Little Miss Chatty

Talking Points #1

At 1 day shy of 18 months, it is clear that Jules understands far more than she can speak.  I'm not sure if it is just me being overly anxious for her to speak but I recall Sophie being able to speak a lot more at this age - which was also the time we visited my sister in Ann Arbor.  In their own time I guess although she has been getting increasing vocal these days.

So just for my own record, I thought I should start keeping track of her vocabulary.  Hopefully, we'll start seeing this list grow more quickly as she turns 18 months tomorrow!

Gong Gong (She finally learnt to call my Dad this week.  Oh you should have seen my Dad's happy face!)
Da-da (My elder sis likes to think she's calling her since we ask her to call her Da-yi but she pretty much goes around calling everyone else Da-da)

There are probably a few I may have missed out but these are pretty much her entire vocabulary for now.  Hopefully she'll pick up more words as she joins the bigger toddler class come next week!
